Bad Customer Service?

July 20th, 2006  |  Published in Austin, Travel  |  1 Comment

Ok, I admit it, I am BIG on customer service! I believe that when we sit down at a restaurant, stay at a hotel, rent equipment, etc, that we should receive good, to great service. I mean, we are, after all, paying them for to use, eat, sit, what ever. Now, I am not saying that I have to have my butt kissed, or my EVERY need met, but I do expect a thank you, your welcome, can I get you anything else, etc.

Tonight, I had dinner with a friend at Olive Garden. (Their prices have gone up some since I was last there.) Anyway, we were seated fairly quickly tonight; there wasn’t a wait when we got. However, our waiter left a lot to be desired. We did receive our food hot, drinks were refilled etc. But the man said almost nothing to us other than asking us what we wanted to eat.

I thought a few minutes before I posted this because I have been to a restaurant where I was with an old friend and all we wanted was to be left alone but were greeted with constant interruption (and to no fault of theirs they were just doing what I have come to expect of good service). So it was with caution that I made this post.

I also had the chance to travel to Peru in March it was there that I realized how rash American’s can be when it comes to what they “think” customer service should be. It’s a long story but there was an American couple at the restaurant that a friend and I were out in Peru and their demands were amazing. I mean – hello it’s a third world country. So in that case I felt like it was totally uncalled for. But in the case of the Olive Garden, I wasn’t really pleased with his attention of us tonight. It was almost like the entire joint was being ruined by high school students. Even the hostess wasn’t nice. Am I being to picky? Not sure, but the “customer” service end of the service could have been a little closer to par…

Mmmm, breadsticks from Olive Garden. I am right there with you. I usually ask for “whatever” to make it right. Like if my food isn’t what I ordered, I want it fixed or I ask questions. Like yesterday I called to have my prescription filled at noonish and by 4:15 when we went to pick it up the lady was like, “Oh it isn’t ready yet, it just came it.” Um, no…it has been sitting on your counter for 4 hours. Whatever. Daniel my husband is so laidback though…he never lets me complain,(when he is with me). I think that for me at least it is a lesson in Grace and a reality check…but I still get crazy annoyed.
