Scheduled payments

I came home from work today, a long day and one of the longest weeks that I have had in some time. To my amazement, the house was a little warmer than expected. I looked over at the electronic thermostat and noticed that nothing was displayed. I looked over at the cable box and noticed that time wasn’t displayed. The power was off. I walked back to the front door to see if the neighbors were out too and before I reached the door handle I saw out the window that the neighbors garage door was being lowered. OUR POWER WAS SHUT OFF!
Who knew that you could enter electronic payments for an entire year before they are due? The simple slip of a finger entered June 20, 2007 rather than 2006. And boy did the City of Austin waste no time in shutting this place down. It was awesome waiting on the phone, paying the bill, and $4.95 service fee to run payment that minute and $80 to have the power turned on that night!
It really was all my fault so I was in a decent mood when I called but that got me no where special with the ladies at the city offices. They went about their day to get my power on, but through my laughter and cutting up with them on the phone, I hope I at least made their day. The $90 didn’t really make mine.
PS. Obviously the power is back on since I posted this.

Hey, speaking of bone-head moves by Rusty, did you leave a USB-powered laptop light over at my house? Because I found one, and it’s not mine.
