My friend and former colleague Tim Walker recently posted an article entitled Stop! which talks about how busy we are, how much we try and do, how overwhelmed we make ourselves and the implications that come with that.

His post really got me thinking about what all I do to stay busy! What kind of things do I fill my day with in order to stay busy, to feel successful and feel some since of self-worth? Tim talks about doing things to the point of either not being successful or only semi-successful and that just sent my mind running.

I consider myself to be successful, there is no question about that. Granted, I haven’t won any kind of public reward, scored an Oscar, been featured in the news, or even had a news article written about me. But I do believe that the changes I have been able to make in people’s lives make everything worth it. If that involves volunteering my time, working to make something better and more efficient at work, helping someone with a website or design, being an ear just to listen, or even something as simple as giving advice.

I know that Tim’s article was not about reflecting on your self-worth nor do I think it suggested that we should all sit back and have self-pity or try and justify the things that we do. But I believe his article made me STOP and think about where I spend my “free” time and even what I spend my “work” or “normal” time focusing on. I agree with a lot of what Tim talks about in many of his posts. Tim has written a few articles about not multitasking, closing your email, and even being mindful of your time. He has some great ideas but frankly I have taken little time to head any of his advice.

I’m thinking I just might try a few of these ideas and see how life changes for me.

What kind of things are you doing that make you busy that you might be able to change?

I ran into B-Dub’s girl yesterday and we got to talking about blog posts and the funny things that happen in our lives. During the conversation, I was asked why I wasn’t posting anymore. So to all of my three readers, I have to be honest that I have just been in a blogging funk here lately. Life has been busy but I just haven’t been motived to post much. I am hoping to change this.

Some time ago I had quite a few readers that visited here. I still get quite a few clicks into the blog as shown by my tracking stats, but even those have started to drop some. I even had built up quite a few readers from other blogs and people around the globe from my postings here and there. I figure it’s high time to get back into the blogging world and write about life, liberty, and the pursuit of… well stuff. Plus being so busy would at least give me content to post about don’t you think?

So here is my promise to post more. Maybe not everyday, but I’m going to shoot for at least one a week.

Oh man! For those of you in the design and web development world, you realize the importance of a stable work environment. And for that matter, almost everything we do on our computers these days requires a good stable environment. As for me, I have been having some trouble with my computer for a few months now. Yesterday, it all came to an end. Something terribly wrong has gone on with my computer.

I thought at one point, it was a bad hard drive. Now, after new hard drive and trying to install Windows six times last night, I reazlied that it has to be something else. I think it’s either the motherboard or something else that is causing the entire system to malfunction. And it’s coming at one of the worst times ever. We are slammed with work, both my side business and my full time job, and a lot of paperwork and accounting stuff to catch back up on.

I have to get this fixed soon. Oh and did I mention that I don’t really have the fundage to get a new one right now! Sweet!

So I have gotten in trouble with a few people the past few days. It seems as though that my lack of posting to the blog has caused some concerns that I have completely left the blog world. I need to offically announce that this is not the case. It’s really been a case of being in a funk for the blogging and the fact that time hasn’t simply gone by. I myself was a little surprised to see that I hadn’t posted since December 17th, 2007. Now, two months later, here I am again. Although not posting any kind of real content here, a post none the less.

Things have been going on in my life, just haven’t been around to post. I promise that I will post more content in the coming days and weeks. I’ll get back into.

I just came back from vacation. I just finished this past week at work logging in a good 60 hours. And I feel like I am ready for another vacation.

The past few weeks have been pretty difficult for me at work. It’s been one thing after another with what feels like 50 bosses all telling me what to do, how to do it and when it needs to happen. I am lossing my mind. We recently had one of our graphic designers leave the church staff for another job. Our replacement for him was a full time video guy. (Love the guy and he’s come a long way since he started a month ago) But I am up to my ears with work. Since the last guy left, I am now working on all of the web and print material in the office and it’s a ton of work. I feel like my life is being put on hold because of how much I am expected to get done. I’m not sure how much longer I can keep on going like this.

I realize that as I read this it sounds like I am complaining. I’m not. I love what do and where I have the opportunity to work. But I am “venting” simply at the work load. And I guess some to the expectation level that is set upon me. Please pray that I can continue to find the strength and determination to keep moving forward at staying on top of things the best that I can…

The last few weeks on the job have been a bit stressful. One of my good friends and co-workers left his position at the church to take a different job at an agency here in Austin. This move for him was much needed and I’m happy that he is able to move on. But this has had a big effect on my workload and project management. The past few weeks I have spent quite a bit of time in the office. My new supervisor has asked me to redesign the church website by September 1st and I’m wondering how that is going to happen. As I have been reading around the internet on a few blogs, I have noticed that many of the new websites and roll-out take months. It’s a huge task that I’m prepared to take on but feel I might need a little bit more time to roll everything out in a well thought out manner. Anyway, that is just one of many projects on my plate right now. Pray that I find time for myself but am also able to stay focused while at work and do better at trying to do one thing at a time.
