This past weekend I ended up taking a water sample to my local pool supply store to have the water tested. I have been having issues keeping the pool water blue after a few days of adding cholrine. I had a feeling that something was up since I have been spending more and more money on chlorine than I have in the past. Turns out that the hardness of my water as well as the cyanuric acid was extremely high. When the cyanuric acid is high, it limits the ability for the chlorine to have an effect on the water in the pool and most of the chlorine is burned off on a sunny day. The best way to remedy the issue was to just drain the pool. I elected to drain the entire pool last weekend. I am so glad that I did. Since I have, I had the opportunity to scrub down the walls, fix a few of the return jets and basically just start fresh.

And a word to those of you that do have a pool and end up in a situation like myself, call your city water department and tell them that you are filling your pool. They will wave the waste water charge on your water bill. If you don’t do this, you will find yourself with one amazing high water bill. So be sure to call the city and let them know how many gallons that your pool holds to allow for this waiver.

I haven’t seen the pool water this clear since I took ownership of the house. It’s been amazing to see the difference in the water. I even bought a few replacement parts to the pool pump like a new cover and gasket to help seal the pump and increase flow through the pipes. I had no idea how this pump was supposed to function. It’s like I have a completely different pool now. And the best part of all of this is that this hasn’t cost me an arm and a leg.

Anyone that wasn’t to come for a dip, let me know!

It’s been awhile since I posted. But I also just recently left Austin for my home town for some much needed vacation. My roommate Seth recently did this same thing and it somewhat inspired me to do the same. I’m saving for house here in Austin, so I don’t have much floatable income to throw around on some of the more eleborate trips I have been known to take in the past. But being home has been a wonderful thing for me. I have had the chance to reconnect with friends that have moved back to the San Antonio area to take jobs that I have lost touch with, hang out with my parents and have them treat me to dinner and good food again, hang out with my brother Mike who also moved back to come work for my parents, spend a LOT of time doing nothing, hang out at my parents pool (which has already afforded me a pretty good sunburn) and even attend a wedding in San Antonio of some friends I went to Peru with. I got to see a ton of old friends that I worked with at T Bar M and my date even knew a ton of people there.

Needless to say, being home so far has been a very good thing for me. I brought a few books to read while I am, journal, and am excited about the time to just sit around and think. You know, ponder life and where I am headed and what I want to do, etc. I brought my camera with me too, but I haven’t take the time to go snap any pictures yet. I guess in part because of the fact that we haven’t had rain here since July 4th, nothing is green or pretty. But I’ll snap a few pics before I take off.
